WORLD WAR III ZINE LAUNCH

The rain threatened to put a damper on the annual launch of the long-standing, hard-hitting illustrated magazine World War 3 Illustrated, an essential publication run by a collective of artists working with the unified goal of creating a home for political comics, graphics and stories. Thankfully, the rain dissipated and a sizable crowd showed up to see and hear various artists’ takes on the theme of their current issue, Expression! Repression! Revoluton! Seth Tobacmon provided an illustrated report of his personal experiences with the Occupy! movement’s first weeks. Carlo Quispe touched upon the factors and consequences behind the National Gallery of Art’s exclusion of David Wojnarowicz’s Fire in My Belly from their HIDE/SEEK exhibit. Mike Diana told the story of his own experiences with extreme censorship when a Florida court ruled his work as obscene; forbidding him from producing artwork was just part of his punishment. LPV was proud to house this community of visual activists, and celebrate each issue that comes down the pipeline.
